On our campus, we’re facing cuts to degrees, courses, and staff conditions. In broader society, we’re living through a period of growing threat of the religious far-right and attacks on LGBTI and women’s rights, the effects of the cost of living crisis borne out of billionaire price-gouging, and the deepening and ever-worsening of the climate crisis. There’s never been a greater need for students to fight back, and we need activists in our union to help lead that resistance.
I’ve got experience, organising all the climate protests on campus this year, leading the rallies against the Religious Discrimination Bill, and the protests defend and extend abortion rights after the overturning of Roe v Wade in America – which won us free abortion in the ACT. Coming out into the streets to fight for our rights works. It’s past time ANUSA had radical activist leadership that knows that.
